This vegan orange cream milkshake recipe is simple, no frills. Just 3 ingredients to make a creamy, refreshing orange creamsicle milkshake.

Recently I’ve had an influx of oranges come in my OddBunch boxes, but my kid has been hot and cold with fresh oranges as a snack. One day, I had the hankering for an Orange Julius. When I looked up the recipe there were so many variations, asking for orange juice concentrate and sugar?! Sometimes, we just gotta keep things simple.
Enter: the vegan orange cream milkshake, or what I can describe as a vegan creamsicle in smoothie form. SO GOOD. So fresh. So simple.

Recipe Notes
If you’re wondering if you can make substitutions, like orange juice instead of oranges, or milk instead of ice cream, the answer is of course! It just won’t quite taste the same. The sweetness from the ice cream plus the ice help give this vegan orange cream milkshake a thick, creamy texture, and the fresh orange is what brings this to the next level. But if you must, here are my suggestions:
Ice cream substitutions: Use some vegan coffee creamer with a plant-based milk for the creaminess that ice cream would give. You may need to supplement with 1-2 tbsp of sugar to offset the sugar that the ice cream had.
Fresh Oranges Substitutions: You can use orange juice from a carton or from concentrate, but the second best thing is some fresh squeezed orange juice (like from the fresh counter at the grocery store).

Vegan Orange Creamsicle Milkshake
Equipment
- 1 high speed blender If you just have a regular powered blender, you may need to juice oranges instead of using peeled ones.
Ingredients
- 5 medium oranges peeled, core cut out
- 1 cup plant-based vanilla ice cream coconut or cashew based
- 1 cup ice
Instructions
- Cut off the peel of all the oranges, and cut out any really thick parts of the membrane (usually the centre). This takes the longest part, but the added fibre is worth it.5 medium oranges
- Add the peeled oranges, plant-based ice cream, and ice into a high-speed blender. Blend on "Smoothie" mode if your blender has it, otherwise just blend until everything is smooth and homogeneous.
